How Pricing Works
Bookshift uses a credit-based pricing system that's simple to understand and offers flexibility for different usage patterns.
The Credit System
1 credit ≈ 1 word of translation
Credits are your currency for all Bookshift services:
- Credits never expire - Buy them once, use them whenever
- Unused credits roll over - Monthly subscriptions add to your balance
- Free credits included - New accounts receive 20,000 free credits to start
How Credits Are Calculated
For book translation, credits are calculated per 1,000 words per target language:
Credits = max(3,000, round(word_count / 1,000) × 1,000) × number_of_languages
Tip
A typical 80,000-word novel translated into one language costs about 80,000 credits.

Minimums and Limits
Book Translation
- Minimum word count: 3,000 words
- Manuscripts below this threshold cannot be submitted
Cover Services
- Cover translation, generation, and series workflows currently cost 5,000 credits each
- Only JPG/PNG files accepted (not PSD or other formats)
Note
Boxset tools are not publicly available yet. Planned pricing is around 5,000 credits.
Transcription
- Transcription pricing is dynamic and may vary by workflow and settings
- The final credit estimate is shown before submission

Which Should You Choose?
- Subscriptions - Best for authors who translate regularly. Better value per credit.
- Credit Packs - Best for occasional users or one-off projects. No recurring commitment.
Note
You can combine both! Subscribe for the base credits and add credit packs when you need more.
Refunds
- Full refunds are offered if a translation job fails to complete
- Credits are retained even if you cancel your subscription - they never expire
- Contact support from your dashboard if you experience issues with any service
