About Bookshift Blog
Welcome to the Bookshift Blog — your guide to navigating the new landscape of global publishing.
Who We Are
Bookshift is building the infrastructure for the next generation of global authors. We believe that language barriers and technical complexity shouldn't determine who gets to share their stories with the world.
Our platform serves hundreds of authors and publishers who are expanding into new markets, reaching readers they never thought possible, and doing it all without the traditional gatekeepers of the publishing industry.
What We Write About
The Bookshift Blog is where we share what we've learned — and what we're still learning — about publishing in a multilingual world. We also explain how Bookshift works and how it's different (and better!) to other translation sites, and how to get the most out of it. Our focus areas include:
Translation Strategy
How to approach translating your work, what to expect from different markets, and why literal translation rarely produces readable books. We'll explain why Bookshift is much better than other services with concrete examples.
Market Intelligence
Deep dives into specific markets — Germany's Titelschutz system, the explosive growth of Korean web novels, the differences between Castilian and Latin American Spanish, why you sometimes need to use English language keywords when publishing in other languages, and more.
Self-Publishing Workflows
Practical guides for independent authors: formatting for different platforms and languages, managing multilingual launches, multilingual marketing, running a multi-language mailing list, and building a global author brand.
Intelligent Publishing Tools
How modern language models and image generation can augment your workflow — and where human judgment still matters most.
The Bookshift Platform
The blog is an extension of what we build at Bookshift — a comprehensive platform for authors ready to go global. Our services include:
Book Translation
Complete manuscript translation into 25+ languages. We don't just run your text through a machine — our multi-stage pipeline handles style preservation, terminology consistency, and natural-sounding output that readers actually enjoy. Bookshift is the best automated translation system for books on the planet.
Cover Translation
Already have a cover you love? We translate the text while preserving your design — typography, layout, and aesthetic. Your German edition can look exactly like your English one, just with German text.
Cover Generation
Need a cover from scratch? Describe your vision — genre, mood, key elements — and our image generation creates Amazon-ready artwork. No design skills required.
Bookshift Proofreader
Professional-grade proofreading with tracked changes in Word format. Inline comments, style suggestions, and optional continuity checking. As well as working with your original manuscript, the Proofreader has a special mode for translations, too. Check your previously translated work, and get explanatory comments in your language, while we still make the corrections in the language of the translated manuscript.
Story Architect (Coming soon!)
A guided planning tool for fiction writers. Build characters, outline plots, track timelines — manually or with intelligent assistance. Great for plotters, pantsers, and everyone in between. Making a book plot has never been so quick and easy.
Transcription Studio
Audio-to-text built for fiction. Dictate your scenes, then enhance, structure, and expand them into full outlines or drafts. Perfect for authors who think faster than they type. 60x faster and with superior editing and formatting to other fiction transcription options!
Publishing Tools
A collection of utilities: German title uniqueness checking (essential before publishing in the DACH market), marketing blurb generation, EPUB cover insertion, manuscript cleaning and formatting, and more.
WHO is Bookshift?
Bookshift was founded by David, author of over 100 novels, and editor and proofreader to several NYT Bestselling novelists. David has worked in indie publishing since 2012, and built Bookshift because he wasn't satisfied with the translations provided by other sites. David has lived abroad his entire adult life, and has spent more than twenty years editing translations, first in academia, and later in fiction.
