AI Cover Prompt Examples by Genre
Bookshift's AI cover generator uses exact title, subtitle, series, tagline, and author fields separately from your visual direction. Treat the Style Hints field as the creative brief: genre signal, mood, composition, color, and market positioning.
How Prompts Work
When you generate a cover, you provide:
- Title and author name - The exact text that should appear on the cover
- Subtitle, series, and tagline - Optional exact cover text fields
- Genre - Helps the AI understand the style
- Style hints - Optional visual direction for the generated cover
You can start from an existing Bookshift book, upload a manuscript for context, or enter details manually. Book context helps with genre fit and story cues, but your style hints should still include any must-have cover direction.
Credit Cost
Each cover generation costs 5,000 credits.

- Mood and emotional tone

Tips for Better Covers
Do's
- Be specific but concise - A few strong details work better than a long scene description
- Describe the mood - "dark and mysterious" or "bright and cheerful"
- Mention key elements - "castle," "forest," "city skyline"
- Specify color preferences - "warm tones," "cool blues," "black and gold"
- Think in market terms - "cozy mystery paperback," "premium business book," "epic fantasy bestseller"
Don'ts
- Don't describe people in detail - The AI creates composite figures
- Don't use explicit language - It will trigger content moderation
- Don't expect exact replication - Each generation is unique
- Don't include too many elements - Simple compositions work best
- Don't put essential text only in style hints - Use the dedicated title, subtitle, series, tagline, and author fields
Generating Multiple Options
You can generate multiple covers and choose your favorite. Each generation is independent, so:
- Try variations on your prompt
- Experiment with different styles
- Regenerate if the first result isn't quite right
Tip
If the first cover isn't what you envisioned, try rephrasing your style hints. Sometimes small wording changes produce dramatically different results.
